FACIAL TONING

As we grow older our facial muscles naturally start to lose tone and elasticity.Genetics, lifestyle, weight fluctuation and environmental factors can all influence the rate and degree to which our muscles will lose their tone as we all know first impressions count and a sagging face can make you look tired, miserable and older than your years.

Microcurrent therapy was originally developed as a medical application to treat facial palsy and muscle tone was restored by applying tiny micro-current electrical impulses to the affected muscles.

Tthis proven technology is now available as a painless cosmetic treatment and is commonly referred to as “facial toning” or “the non surgical face lift”.

During each 1 hour treatment session all 32 facial muscles are gently manipulated and re-educated by a trained therapist using a series of precise movements. Soft cotton tipped wands are used on the face to transmit the micro-current energy to the facial muscles to restore tone and elasticity.

Results are visible after the very first treatment but a course of twelve treatments is generally recommended.

After a course of CACI facial toning treatments facial contours will look lifted and toned.

A monthly top up treatment is recommended to maintain results.

LINES / WRINKLES

Facial wrinkles are caused by a number of factors:

Dynamic lines - these are wrinkles that are caused by contraction of the muscles of facial expression. Repeated compression of the skin along these lines breaks down the collagen fibres which support the skin to form specific lines and wrinkles. Initially, these wrinkles can only be seen when the muscles contract e.g when you smile/frown, however, as the skin becomes progressively creased, the lines may often appear at rest.

Loss of facial volume - When we are younger, our face is more plump and full as time passes, this volume is lost.  Fat around the eyes, cheeks, and forehead are depleted. This loss of volume leads to some bagginess of skin and the formation of wrinkles. Loss of facial volume also results in an older, more gaunt appearance, as is often seen with dramatic weight loss. Microcurrent Non-surgical facial toning can help to replace this lost volume - improving both wrinkles and the overall youthfulness of the face.

Gravity - The inescapable pull of gravity draws the skin downwards on the face. This leads to drooping of the cheeks and formation of nasolabial lines (the lines from the corners of the mouth to the nose) and jowls, drooping of the eye skin and formation of upper and lower lid laxity and wrinkles.

Sleep lines – These are caused by the compression of the skin from contact of the pillow to the face when sleeping. Their location is determined by the underlying attachments of the muscles of the face. Pillow contact puts pressure on these attachments and causes sleep lines. Sleep lines can often be found on the forehead, around the eyes, cheeks and upper lip, and are not created by muscle contraction.

Skin re-surfacing technologies like Microdermabrasion, and the ultrasonic peel can help to reduce the signs of premature lines and wrinkles by stimulating the production of new collagen. Hydrating treatments like Hydratone can help to re-hydrate the skin and plump out deep lines and wrinkles

EYE BAGS

Eye bags and dark circles around the eyes are commonly a genetic condition that often will worsen with age. Lack of sleep, poor diet and low water intake will certainly make the condition worse. However, there are other contributory factors that may also cause eye bags and dark circles. If there is a lack of oxygen getting to the skin tissue then this may lead to discolouration around the eyes. Puffiness around the eye area can also be caused by fluid retention often as the result of dehydration.

Technologies like Hydratone will hydrate and oxygenate the tissue helping to alleviate these conditions. The cooling action of the Hydratone mask will also help to constrict the capillaries around the eye area resulting in the reduction of the appearance of dark circles.

Dark circles are likely to become more noticeable and permanent with age. This is because as people get older, skin loses collagen and becomes thinner and more translucent.  Bad circulation and a sluggish metabolism will cause dark circles and little pockets of fat to form. Stimulatory treatments using microcurrent or vacuum technology will help to stimulation blood flow and assist in breaking down fatty deposits.

Sometimes, a chronic sinus condition or a nasal allergy can also result in under-eye puffiness. The stimulatory action of microcurrent and vacuum therapies can assist in unblocking and breaking down sinus congestion.

Acne/Blemishes

All acne is a disorder of the sebaceous glands. Sebaceous glands produce a substance called sebum, which is responsible for keeping the skin moisturized. During adolescence sebaceous glands enlarge and produce more sebum under the influence of hormones, also called androgens. After about age 20, sebum production begins to decrease.

Problems arise when the sebum becomes trapped in the skin and hair follicles. The sebum is produced but gets trapped on the way out, and the cells that are normally sloughed off become "sticky", plugging up the follicle. The process of obstructing follicles is called comedogenesis. It causes some follicles to form a type of acne called comedones, also known as blackheads and whiteheads.

Treatment methods that slough off the dead skin cells like Microdermabrasion and an Ultrasonic Peel can prevent sebum from becoming trapped in the follicles. These exfoliation methods also help to unblock obstructed follicles by removing the comedones.

A bacteria, known as Propionibacterium acnes, is a normal inhabitant of the skin. It uses sebum as a nutrient for growth, therefore increases in follicles during puberty. People with acne have more Propionibacterium acnes in their follicles than people without acne. The presence of bacteria attracts white blood cells to the follicle. This process causes an inflammatory response seen as papules (red bumps), pustules, and nodules. The bacteria also cause the formation of free fatty acids, which are irritants, increasing the inflammatory process in the follicle. The American Academy of Dermatology has reported that blue LED Light Therapy can be used to destroy the bacteria that produces the inflammation associated with propionbacterium acnes.

Other studies have shown that a combination of Red and Blue light LED therapy produced quicker results for the treatment of acne than the application of blue light alone.

Skin Peeling

As we age, the automatic process of exfoliation and cell renewal slows down. Sometimes the body needs a little help. The removal of the dead skin cells reveals the softer more youthful looking skin cells underneath.

The superficial abrasion of the skin also triggers the body’s own natural repair mechanism which triggers the production of new collagen and releases glycoaminoglycans in order to rehydrate and replenish the recently abraded area. This has a remarkable softening action on surface lines and wrinkles.

There are several light abrasion technologies available that can assist in removing the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin).

Microdermabrasion uses abrasive crystals to gently exfoliate the dead skin cells.

An Ultrasonic Peel provides a far gentler and less aggressive alternative to traditional  Microdermabrasion methods of skin exfoliation

Skin Hydration

Sun damage, poor diet and an unsatisfactory skin care regimen can lead to dry, flakey, dehydrated skin.Dry skin can lead to premature ageing, the break down of collagen and the formation of lines and wrinkles. The skin will take on a dull, greyish and devitalized appearance. As the skin tries to compensate for dryness the sebaceous (oil producing) glands will try to lubricate the skin and in so doing pores may become clogged and black heads and acne pustules may form.

In short, good skin hydration is essential in order to maintain a healthy and youthful complexion.

The Hydratone facial treatment uses a moisture infused gel mask to bathe the skin with intensive hydrating actives. De-hydrated and sun damaged skin is immediately quenched by the hydrating properties of the mask. The Hydratone mask also has a softening action on the skin tissue that helps to plump out and smooth lines and wrinkles.

Neck

One of the biggest skin care challenges is the neck and décolleté area. Most women completely ignore and neglect this delicate area in their daily skin care routine. It will most likely never see any moisturizer or an exfoliating scrub. But any close-up look will reveal the damages of such neglect: the neck and décolleté area easily will show a women’s age if it is dry and wrinkled.

Lack of a proper skin care routine and sun overexposure on the neck and décolleté result in dryness and a lack of elasticity. This premature aging process is also affected by the use of harsh alkaline products such as soaps, which will contribute to excessive moisture loss and sensitivities.

The neck muscle (Platysma) is not connected to a bone structure and is prone to lose its elasticity. It also contains very little fatty tissue and has less sebaceous glands than on the face. The lack of sebaceous glands makes this area very prone to dryness and wrinkle formation.

The Hydratone treatment uses a moisture infused gel mask to bathe the skin with intensive hydrating actives. De-hydrated skin is immediately quenched by the hydrating properties of the mask. The Hydratone mask also has a softening action on the skin tissue that helps to plump out and smooth lines and wrinkles.

Hands

You've buffed, scrubbed and moisturised your face into an ageless vision of youth that keeps them guessing. That is, until they notice your hands.

A classic ageing giveaway, our hands are a tell-tale indicator of our true age.

They are always in contact with the elements, household chemicals and extreme temperatures causing sun damage, dryness, chapped skin and age spots, yet our hands are often left off the list when it comes to pampering. However, it's never too late to start caring for your hands as they respond quickly to a little TLC.

The quickest way to keep hands looking young and beautiful is to use exfoliation technology to remove the dry dead skin cells followed by an intensive moisturising treatment to leave the skin tissue firm and supple.

Stimulation of the skin tissue will also improve blood flow and circulation giving the hands a healthy and youthful glow.
